Mountaineering is definitely a great outdoor activity. However, it is not meant for every person. It is an activity for those who have the guts to climb to the top of the mountain. It is for those who have the courage to go to that extent. Reaching the summit of the mountain is the highest achievement that a climber will ever have. It is, however, noting that mountaineering is not all about fun. It is a very risky sport and remains to be deadliest. As they try to climb mountains, many people have lost their lives due to collapsing and such other risks. Others have become disabled as a result of tragic accidents on the mountains. Mont blank massif remains to be the deadliest mountain on the earth. It is the tallest in the alpine range and has a height of 15,782ft. The rock slides have been causing death of climber’s year in year out. This is the mountain with the highest number of fatalities causing deaths to about 100 people per year. Since history, it has claimed lives of 6000 people. President Theodore Roosevelt climbed the mountain in 1886 which has made it very popular.
The second mountain on the list is the Annapurna. The height of the mountain is 26,246 ft. The tallest peak is the Nepal Annapurna that attracts climbers from all over the world. Since 1950, the mountain has been climbed successfully by 191 climbers. As climbers try to reach the summit of Annapurna, 60 people have since died. For mountains with 8000 meters peak, it is considered as the most dangerous.
Another mount under focus is the K2 which is the second highest in the world. It is located in the border of Pakistan and China with a height of 28251 ft. Climbing Kilimanjaro is easy but not K2. Even if you choose the easiest route, you will face challenges such as the ice pillars that are prone to collapse. Step rocks and complicated glaciers. This mountain has earned a bad reputation against female climbers. Six women had tried to climb the mountain and five of them died since year 2003.
Nanga Parbat is another mountain in this category and is known as the man eater. The mount is located in Pakistan and has a height of 26657ft. It has enormous ridge of ice and rock. It ranks as number nine in height in the world and has the tallest mountain face. By 1953, 31 climbers have been claimed on this mountain.
